Meet us at the Grace Hopper Celebration!
The Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing (GHC) is a large annual gathering of women in computing fields, and has served as the best place to reach many Latinas informally at the LiC reception and LiC luncheon, as well as in a more organized format through panels and Birds of a Feather sessions. Through the help of the Anita Borg Institute and generous sponsors, we have been able to organize a reception and a luncheon during GHC. For our participation in panels and BoF sessions, we start planning a couple of months before the submission deadline. We discuss possible topics to present and participation is open to any member who has a special interest in the topic. This open participation has allowed newer members to be comfortable volunteering to help. In general, if someone has something she wants to share and is passionate about a topic, she is more than welcome to participate in a panel. Through these collaborations we are able to put together several proposals covering many areas that are not only of interest to Latinas but to a broad array of conference attendees. This also allows us to establish stronger relationships with each other and keep valuable members involved in the community.
